Pasado Continuo Voz Pasiva

Hay varias razones por las que utilizamos la voz pasiva en inglés. En estas notas, vamos a enfocarnos en el Pasado Continuo en la voz pasiva.

Por regla general, utilizamos la voz pasiva cuando el enfoque está acerca de la acción y no en la persona o cosa que está cumpliendo la acción.

Pasado Continuo Voz pasiva construcción

Was/were + being + participio pasado.

Verbo ejemplar: to follow

I was being followed	We were being followed
You were being followed	You (guys) were being followed
He/she/it was being followed	They were being followed

El agente es desconocido. No sabemos quién o qué es el agente

• An email was being written by our supply team. (we don’t know the contents of the email, neither its transmitter or sender, only that is an email). 
• An unidentified flying object was being recorded by many observers from around the globe. (the subject is unknown because we don’t know about the ‘unidentified object’). 

Usamos la voz pasiva para enfatizar el sujeto

• I myself was being held captive there in a concentration camp. 
• The guards were the ones being incarcerated by their own allies.

Usamos la voz pasiva para hablar acerca de verdades muy generales

• The man was always being told what to do.
• The native peoples of North America were always being dragged into the battle against the colonisers.

Usamos la voz pasiva si queremos ser poco claros o vagos sobre el tema/sujeto

• All I can tell you is that a ship was being scheduled to land.
• Letters were being written to the author.

Usamos la voz pasiva cuando el sujeto es irrelevante

(Nos da igual quién o qué ha causado la acción).

• Someone from their team was being brought to the resort to resolve the issue. Whoever the ‘someone’ is, is irrelevant in this context). 
• I am not sure who exactly was being sought after by the police.

Usamos la voz pasiva en un ambiente más formal como en una tesis o una redacción importante, como, por ejemplo, redacciones científicas

• The movements in the Middle East at that time in the past were being halted by forces from the north.
• Sodium was being dissolved into the liquid for three minutes.
